USDA BiopreferredSM Program
Guidelines for Designating Biobased Products for Federal Procurement
The USDA BioPreferredSM Program guidelines for classifying and procuring biobased products is governed by federal regulations. These regulations are outlined in 7 CFR 2902 with amendments as published in the Federal Register.
The regulations are divided into two parts. Subpart A - General describes the overall process for designating biobased products and governs the Federal procurement of biobased products. Subpart B - Designated Items lists the approved biobased product categories and the specific federal requirements for biobased content and Federal procurement for products within a category.
